Berwyn Real Estate & Information
Home to approximately 49,664 people in 2009, beautiful Berwyn is well-known for its tree-lined streets, easy commutes, and historic architecture. Less well known but equally impressive is the emerging arts, music, and theater scene created by the recent influx of artists and professionals to the city. Residents can now enjoy live theater, jazz concerts, and more all from within the city limits. The city’s affordable housing, ever-expanding residential, commercial, and cultural amenities, and its close proximity to downtown Chicago make Berwyn a great place to call home.

Shopping and Dining
Harlem Expresso coffee shop opened to great fanfare in August of 2011 in the Harlem Avenue Metra Station. The shop is one of many new restaurants and cafes to open recently in the Depot District – Berwyn’s emerging dining and nightlife hotspot. Cigars and Stripes offers one of Chicagoland’s best selections of beers alongside SuburbaNites Magazine’s “best hot wings in the suburbs.” It’s as good as anything Chicago has to offer – without the Chicago prices! A new $10 million redevelopment project will bring a new façade, green technology, and a more pedestrian-friendly plaza to Cermak Plaza, Berwyn’s dynamic shopping destination, home to Walgreens, Marshalls, and more.
Parks and Recreation
Beautiful Proksa Park features the Baldwin Playground Area, three lighted tennis courts, two lighted baseball diamonds, two picnic groves, two ponds, a children’s garden, and a creek. Freedom Park’s Children’s Water Park is a summer-time favorite, and plays the host to Berwyn’s Hawaiian Luau pool party. Berwyn is also home to an indoor basketball court, and the Smirz Skate Park, where skaters can now skate for free!
Living
Residents of Berywn enjoy some of the finest and most affordable housing available near the city of Chicago. The residential neighborhoods present a blend of old and new, situated along tree-lined streets with well-maintained lawns and gardens. Berwyn has the most significant collection of Chicago-style bungalows outside of the city of Chicago. These handsome homes were built from the 1920s through the 1940s. Decorative details can include oak woodwork, stained glass windows, tile roofs and glazed brick. A stroll through the neighborhoods will also reveal stately Victorian, English Tudor and Prairie School architecture. It's not unusual for residents to spend their weekends refinishing woodwork, restoring art glass windows and picking out period-appropriate paint colors, but restored vintage homes ready for move-in can be found as well. The annual "Historic Berwyn Bungalow Tour” features a selection of the town’s charming homes.
