"Suburb Within The City"

Part of the City of Chicago, the Galewood-Montclare area borders Oak Park to the south and Elmwood Park to the west. Known as the "Suburb Within the City", Galewood has been home to several notable personalities including World War II Army flying ace William J. Cullerton, former state senator Robert J. Graham, long-time "Hall of Fame" Austin High School football coach Bill Heiland, publisher and playboy, Hugh Hefner, actress Kim Novak, and former IL governor James Thompson.

Many of the area's homes date from the 1930s-1940s and the architectural styles include English Tudor, Chicago Bungalow, Ranch, French Provincial, Cape Cod, and Georgian. The mix of styles, predominant brick construction, and the manicured lawns make for a beautiful community. Housing prices generally compare favorably to adjacent suburbs making Galewood-Montclare and affordable touch of small town America within the City of Chicago.
